Live the Love
♥
Went to a special needs centre this morning
together with the other team-mates from 'Live the Love'..
Rough idea of what I'm talking about..
Actually 'Live the Love' was inspired by an carnival event
'Live is Good', which some of us experienced in Boston..
If you have Facebook, hop over to my photo album 'Boston Day 3',
the picts will explained a lot of things..
We all agreed that it was a great event with lots of fun and great elements
present for children, families and hipsters like us..
So the really ambitious us, wanted to do something like
that in Singapore..
However, due to lots of limitations, a lot of things did not work
the way we wanted and planned for..
Thus, after much thinking, brainstorming, reflections,
discussion with all the peeps, faculty and the big-shot ppl,
we decided to scale the whole project to a really
small one..
Though the 'wow' factor aint there anymore,
but the ultimate aim have not change.
We still want to IMPACT children and families!
In fact, I think we went one step further, because we are
doing a service for children with special needs..
On that actual day, we will be planning different activities
for these individuals with Special needs based on
the theme - Eric Carle*..
Games, Story-telling, Craft and DRAMA!
It's in caps because I'm in the Drama team..
* Eric Carle is a well-known writer and illustrator for children's book..
And Crystal Weisz is a big fan of his and she owns quite a
few of his good books :D*
We have decided on one centre to carry out our plan this
late April, somewhere near my place..
And this centre was actually one centre
that I wanted to volunteer for before I started this Degree program,
for my initial plan was so much focused on working
with children with special needs..
But apparently, things changed. And I kind
of forgot part of the reason why I embarked
on this Wheelock program, not just to gain the leadership
aspect but also one the area of Special Needs..
And today, we had the opportunity to be 'attached'
to a special needs class for a short observation and
interaction with children with special needs..
At that very moment in the classroom, I was rather
overwhelmed with all these thoughts that I had before -
working and helping these children lead a normal life as
possible..
What have I achieved?
Nothing.. In fact, these thoughts are long forgotten,
until today.. That short stay in the centre, elicited all
those thoughts that I had..
And now, I want to go back to my initial thoughts..
But it's kind of too late with my 3 years bond..
And with me shifting far away from this centre in
a couple of months....
But still, I know I will find a way.. Like I always do!
And I hope that everyone of us
can do a part for these under-privileged children
and families too!
Helping them live a better life..
Yesh! Live the Love!!
Though its an ultra huge challenge to make everything fall in place,
I'm glad we, Wheelock Cohort2 are in this together,
taking baby steps to IMPACT children and families! :D
